Improve
is developing the Improve Proficiency Apprenticeship (IPA),
which will meet the Specification of Apprenticeship Standards
for England (SASE). Information on how this work is progressing
can be found in the two draft documents given below.
This
Apprenticeship Framework will incorporate the Improve Proficiency
Qualifications (IPQs) and where relevant Improve Vocational
Qualifications (VRQs). These qualifications sit on the Qualifications
and Credit Frameworks (QCF) for England and Wales.
The
Improve Proficiency Apprenticeship have been available from
1 January 2011. From this date the NVQ-based
Frameworks were no longer to be offered although apprentices
who have started by this date will be allowed to finish.
Improve
has consulted widely with all types of stakeholders on the
‘flexibility’ within the SASE and outcomes where appropriate
will be introduced into the new Framework

Apprenticeship
information for Scotland - see also this Improve
Ltd webpage
Improve
has developed a Framework for Modern Apprenticeships for the
food and drink industry in Scotland. This is based on the
Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Food Manufacture,
and offers employees and learners from across the industry
the opportunity to follow one integrated programme of learning.
The
SVQ in Food Manufacture is an integral part of the Modern
Apprenticeship and has a number of flexible pathways, which
give employers and learners the option to in a number of food
and drink sectors.
During
2009, Improve worked with Scottish employers to be the first
Sector Skills Council to have a Level 2 Modern Apprenticeship
Framework in Scotland approved. We are now working with our
partners to help further implement Modern Apprenticeships
across the industry in Scotland.
The
Framework is part of the overall qualifications reform strategy
for the food and drink manufacturing industry, building on
the flexibility offered
by the SVQ.
Work
to review and revise the Scottish seafood qualifications framework
will start in April 2012 under the leadership of Improve Ltd
and with the guidance of Seafish. Employers wishing to participate
in this review are urged to contact academy@seafish.co.uk
to register their interest.
