The materials contained in this Gallery were originally developed to support the Edexcel qualifications in Food Science and Manufacturing Technology. However, they can be used to support any appropriate College-based learning programme or even used for self study.

To understand what is available from this Gallery you need to realise that:

  • There are two Edexcel Awards:

  • Seafish have developed two seafood specific units that can be used as part of the Award or Certificate programmes or on their own:
    • Seafood Unit A (introduction to seafood and primary processing);
    • Seafood Unit B (secondary and value added processing).

A selection of the materials are available from this Gallery as pdf files of the slide handouts or as full powerpoint presentations on CD from Seafish.

The materials supporting the two seafood units represent 12 days of full time delivery or 60 guided learning hours per unit. A full description of the learning outcomes is available here:

Should you want to use the Powerpoints themselves then please contact L_Cooper@Seafish.co.uk. The materials are available free of charge to any UK seafood business, College or University.

While these qualifications are due to lapse as approved programmes in August 2007, any employer interested in making use of them for workplace training should contact Academy@seafish.co.uk. If there is suppprt from employers for this type of training them we may well be able to 'revive' them as a nationally recognised qualification.

Good News - This qualification will continue as a 'Customised' qualification thanks to the efforts of the University of Lincoln and other deliverers of these awards.
