Bivalve Purification Training Courses

The first of four new training courses under development by Seafish was piloted in October 2007 in the West of Scotland.

Celtic Sea, mussel grower and a bivalve purification centre was the first recipient of the new Introduction to Bivalve Purification Operations training course.

Staff at the Centre attended the half day course delivered by Martin Pyke and Lee Cooper of Seafish.

The new course is aimed at operative staff working in bivalve purification and handling facilities and complements the two Managers' course that is being readied for an early 2008 launch.

Feedback from Centre staff and from Sally Moore of the Fish Industry Training Association was welcomed and will be taken into account when this course is revised over the next few months.

Seafish training development team leader, Lee Cooper said "the first pilot of a new course is always a tense time. This is when we find if we have got it just about right or if we have not. I'm glad to say that the pilot is pretty much what we want from this course although it is still a little too long. the staff at the Centre were very attentive and asked some very good questions"

Mr Cooper also said " we don't plan to run this course again until we can start training trainers. This will happen early in 2008".
